Title: Threshold resummation of differential observables

I discuss the all-order resummation of soft gluon contributions to transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of colorless final-state particles (such as Higgs) in perturbative QCD. I present the underlying physics, based on renormalization group arguments combined with an understanding of the relevant kinematics, and I spell out some necessary assumptions. I elucidate the relation between the Drell-Yan rapidity distribution  and semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, and the relation between the associate resummation procedures. The emphasis  will be on the analysis of the main relevant ideas and techniques, rather than on phenomenological aspects.
