Numerology on the worldsheet of confining strings

I will review recent progress in understanding the worldsheet dynamics of confining strings in pure gluodynamics. I will highlight a couple of intriguing numerical coincidences, which suggest that the worldsheet theory is in the same equivalence class as a new family of integrable non-critical strings, called axionic strings. The leading order violation of integrability appears to be tightly connected to the leading order violation of scale invariance in perturbative QCD.
