CMS - upgrade barrel pixel detector

The upgraded CMS barrel pixel detector system was built in part at the Physik Institut by the CMS group. In January 2017, the four cylindrical half-shell systems were sent to PSI.
At PSI the half-shell systems will be connected to new barrel pixel detector modules. The new detector will improve CMS tracking performance, even at the higher instantaneous luminosities expected at the LHC starting in June 2017. The upgraded detector has an additional layer, faster readout electronics, reduced material and a new two-phase CO2 cooling system.
