1986 Diploma (Wasser auf Cer, über einen neuen, die Spaltung von Wasser betreffenden Gesichtspunkt) and 1990 PhD thesis (Two Aspects concerning 4f impurities on metals) at ETH Zürich under the supervision of Louis Schlapbach and Hans-Christoph Siegmann. From 1988 to 1991 assistant at the Université de Fribourg. 1990 SPG Preis der Firma IBM. From 1991 to 1994 Gastforscher at the Fritz-Haber-Institut in Berlin with Gerhard Ertl. Work on non adiabatic gas surface reactions. Since 1995 Senior assistant /lecturer at the University of Zürich. 1997 Habilitation in experimental physics (Charge-transfer induced particle emission in gas surface reactions). 2004 Titularprofessor. 2007 Promotionsrecht.
