About myself

Since February 2018, I am a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Professor in the field of experimental condensed matter at the Physics Institute of University of Zurich.

I did my PhD at the Institute of Material Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), where I investigated the generation of strain-induced self-assembled oxide nanostructures (i.e. CeO2 nanowires and nanodots) grown through chemical solutions. For that work, I received the Physics Extraordinary PhD Award of Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2010.

In 2010, I joined the group of Prof. Triscone at the University of Geneva where I focused on the study of nickelate-based thin films and superlattices (i.e. LaNiO3-LaMnO3 multilayers). In 2014, I obtained an Excellence Research Fellowship from UNIGE and in 2016 I was awarded the IBM-Condensed Matter Physics prize of the Swiss Physical Society for my work on “a unique magnetic coupling at oxide interfaces”.

My current research interests focus on oxide interface physics and on the engineering of high quality artificial functional heterostructures. My expertise encompasses from the growth of atomic-scale controlled high quality oxide heterostructures and nanostructures to the use of several advanced state-of-the-art techniques at large facilities key to the study of such complex materials, but also involving laboratory-based structural, electric and magnetic measurements.
