Description

This lecture covers the main theoretical concepts to describe phenomena in condensed matter and is suited both for experimentally and theoretically oriented students. It will introduce the basics of band structure theory, crystal symmetries, electrons in magnetic fields, linear response as well as transport theory, before transitioning to effects induced by electron-electron interactions including the Landau Fermi liquid theory, phases of broken symmetry and Mott insulators. The accompanying exercises will strengthen the understanding of these concepts with concrete examples.
