In order to track the content we develop a list of hundred words (PDF, 87 KB) of notions, models, methods, formulas and concepts that were covered in the lecture.

 

Solid state physics (Festkörperphysik) deals with the structure and resulting properties of condensed matter in the solid aggregate. With the help of quantum mechanics, macroscopic properties such as thermal and electrical conductivity, transparency,  ferromagnetism, or superconductivity can be understood and predicted. Starting from different chemical bonding types, we will learn and apply concepts such as crystal, reciprocal lattice, band structure, and quasiparticles.
