Title: Semileptonic B Decays: status and perspectives Speaker: Dr. Marcello Rotondo, INFN Padova Abstract: The semileptonic decays of hadrons with beauty, allow to mesaure the magnitude of two elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix: Vub and Vcb. These parameters are crucial inputs to the so called Unitarity Triangle Fits. Both Vub and Vcb parameters can be extracted from inclusive B decays, where the final states is not fully reconstructed, and from exclusive processes, where one specific final state is analysed. The theoretical frameworks and the experimental techniques needed to exploit the two approaches are very different and complementary. Despite the great theoretical efforts and the many experimental measurements provided by the B-Factories in the last decades, a discrepancy between inclusive and exclusive determinations of about 3 sigma resists many checks for both Vub and Vcb. The solution of this puzzle is an high priority in the present and future flavour physics programs. I will review the status of the Vub and Vcb determinations and I will discuss the experimental opportunities at LHCb that has recently shown great capabilities on this field through the measurement of the rate of the baryonic semileptonic decay Lambda_b --> p mu nu.
