For Students
This lecture addresses experimental techniques in the field of surface and nano
physics, in particular photoelectron spectroscopy with momentum and spin resolution, electron diffraction
methods, time-resolved methods and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. It will be shown how versatile
the different techniques are and which type of information may be
obtained from experimental data.
Applications of these techniques cover the
chemical analysis of solid surfaces, the determination of atomic
surface structure, the determination of the electronic bandstructure and
low-energy excitations, and the measurement at ultra-short time scales.
The course consists of two hours of lecture per week and one hour
of excercises and short talks. Knowledge of solid state physics
(Vorlesung Festkörperphysik I) is required. Depending on the
audience, the lectures will be given in either English or German.
