We investigate fundamental processes at surfaces and interfaces

The structure and reactivity of surfaces is governed by the interplay of electronic and atomic motion. We study processes such as molecular adsorption and self assembly, charge and energy transport as well as fundamental aspects of light-matter interaction and associated electronic and atomic dynamics.

This is realized by atomic level probes such as photoemission, scanning tunneling microscopy and electron diffraction techniques. We have a variety of light sources available in our own laboratories and operate a beamline endstation at the swiss light source (SLS). In addition we are active in several national and international collaborations to realize complex projects.
